US Open | August 25 - September 7, 2008
Flushing Meadows, New York

Arther Ashe Stadium

The US Open is the fourth and final of the Grand Slam tournaments. Originally two separate men's and women's tournaments, all five events (men's and women's singles, men's and women's doubles, and mixed doubles) were merged in 1968 into the newly named US Open. In 1978, the event moved from the West Side Tennis Club's grass courts in Forest Hills, Queens to its current home, the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, at Flushing Meadows, and the surface changed to the current DecoTurf.

The main court is named after Arthur Ashe, who won the inaugural men's final in 1968. The second court is the Louis Armstrong Stadium. The DecoTurf surface is a fast surface, and has slightly less friction and produces a lower bounce than other hard courts. For this reason, many serve-and-volley players have found success at the US Open.
